HAZLET, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a police officer and a volunteer firefighter rescued a couple from their burning home in Monmouth County.

Hazlet police say officer Nicolas Logothetis was working near Seventh Street when a resident told him about the fire around 11:45 a.m. Friday. Logothetis called it in and went to the home.

The officer was soon joined by Frank Harris, a volunteer firefighter in Long Branch who happened to be working in the area. They soon found the fire at the back of the home and quickly helped the couple escape.

The couple’s names were not released. Authorities identified them only as man and a woman in their 60s.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which left the home uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
