RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) - State regulators have granted a water permit for a contested expansion of a shopping mall called the Renaissance at Colony Park on the outskirts of Mississippi’s biggest city.

The Mississippi Environmental Quality approved the permit on Thursday, according to the Mississippi Business Journal (http://bit.ly/29kwFyb ).

The plan for the 45-acre site on the edge of Jackson, Mississippi, calls for the clearing and filling of 14 acres of forested wetlands, channelization and excavation of a section of a creek.

Opponents of the expansion plan filed suit in Madison County Circuit Court challenging the legitimacy of the plans for the Renaissance expansion, which includes a Costco Wholesale store.

Opponents worry about increased traffic with the Costco store. There are many upscale homes near the mall.
