LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Police have arrested a Roswell man in connection with a fatal stabbing in Las Cruces.

Authorities in Las Cruces said Saturday that 35-year-old Rodolfo Martinez has been booked on an open count of murder and one count of evidence tampering.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a stabbing around 7:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Western Inn.

They found 46-year-old Christopher Wray with multiple stab wounds.

He was transported to a hospital, where he died overnight.

Witnesses say the victim and the suspect were walking together when they got in a fight.

Police believe Martinez stabbed Wray with either a knife or scissors and then fled the area.

Martinez was taken into custody within the hour.
