SYDNEY (AP) - Striker Lisa De Vanna and defender Clare Polkinghorne have been named co-captains of the Australian women’s football team which will compete at the Rio Olympics.

Melbourne’s City’s De Vanna is the only member of the 18-strong squad with Olympics experience. She competed at the 2004 Athens games at which Australia finished fifth.

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Ellie Carpenter is the youngest member of the squad at 16.

Carpenter said “since I was a kid I’ve always dreamed of being Olympian and I can’t believe it is coming true this early.”
