ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a married couple riding a motorcycle has been killed after they were hit from behind by someone driving under the influence.

Highway Patrol Cpl. Bill Rhyne said 35-year-old Jesse Speer drove off after hitting the motorcycle around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, but was arrested a short time later.

Rhyne said the motorcycle and Speer’s car were both driving west on state Highway 28 near Anderson.

Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown told WYFF-TV (http://bit.ly/29cGQkn ) that Bryan Smith and his wife, Shannon died at the scene of the wreck. They were both 46 years old.

Speer is charged with felony DUI resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
