SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - Volunteers are being sought to help hold an 80-foot by 50-foot American flag during Saginaw’s July Fourth celebration.

The Saginaw News reports (http://bit.ly/29hG6uW ) Sunday that a crane will raise the flag at 10 a.m. Monday above the Court Street bridge. It will be flown from the top of the bridge and lowered at 4:30 p.m.

Local business owner Bill Giorgis tells the newspaper that 300 to 400 volunteers are needed to put the flag up and probably 150 to 200 to take it down.

The flag first was raised last year. Giorgis said “it brought everybody in the community together.”

He spent nearly $8,000 in 2015 on the flag, later raising funds from businesses, organizations and individuals to help cover the cost.
