NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a fast-moving fire roared through a Newark neighborhood, severely damaging four homes and displacing 28 residents.

More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze, which was reported shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday.

The fire was first reported at a three-story residence on Pennsylvania Avenue. But when firefighters arrived, they found the blaze had already spread to two other three-story homes there and to a 2 1/2 story residence that was under construction.

The fire was declared under control around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

No residents were injured in the blaze. But a firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The cause and the origin of the fire are under investigation by city fire officials and the Essex County prosecutor’s office.
