UEFA has fined the Portuguese football federation 5,000 euros ($5,560) because one of its fans ran onto the pitch toward Cristiano Ronaldo during a quarterfinal game against Poland.

The man, wearing a shirt in Portugal colors, evaded security to get close to Ronaldo during extra time of the match in Marseille last Thursday.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel imposed the standard fine for a “field invasion,” plus a warning over its fans encroaching onto the playing area after Portugal won in a penalty shootout.

A similar case was dropped earlier in the European Championship after a fan ran on the field to take a photograph with Ronaldo after a game against Austria at Parc des Princes in Paris.

UEFA says it also fined the Portuguese federation 2,000 euros ($2,230) for fans lighting fireworks in Stade Velodrome at Marseille.

UEFA has appointed World Cup final referee Nicola Rizzoli to the Germany vs. France semifinal on Thursday in Marseille.

The Italian referee, who officiated at Germany’s title-winning victory over Argentina two years ago in Brazil, will be working his fourth match at Euro 2016.

UEFA picked Jonas Eriksson of Sweden to referee the first semifinal between Portugal and Wales on Wednesday in Lyon.

Eriksson, who refereed the Europa League final in May, has had two previous games at the tournament, including Wales’ 3-0 win over Russia in a group-stage game.

Germany midfielder Sami Khedira has been ruled out of Thursday’s European Championship semifinal against France, while Bastian Schweinsteiger is struggling to be fit for the clash in Marseille.

Striker Mario Gomez was already ruled out with a muscle tear in his right thigh sustained during Germany’s quarterfinal win over Italy, while defender Mats Hummels is suspended.

Germany coach Joachim Loew says, “We’ll have to find solutions.”

Khedira has a left groin injury. “We’ll do everything possible so that he’s available for a possible final,” Loew said.

Schweinsteiger, whose season was disrupted by two serious right knee injuries, took a knock to the same knee in Saturday’s game against Italy and strained a ligament.

Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl or Liverpool’s Emre Can could step in if the 31-year-old Schweinsteiger doesn’t make it.

Portugal defender Pepe is an injury concern for the semifinal against Wales on Wednesday.

Portugal press officer Onofre Costa told a news conference Pepe has a thigh muscle problem and would not be training on Monday.

The Real Madrid defender is a key player for Portugal after Cristiano Ronaldo, and has been one of the team’s best players at Euro 2016.
