BRIDGTON, Maine (AP) - A five-hour standoff in which a father and son were barricaded in a motel room in western Maine has ended peacefully.

Bridgton Police Chief Rick Stillman says the pair refused to submit to arrest Thursday afternoon, telling negotiators that they’d done nothing wrong.

But police eventually arrested 53-year-old John A. Connolly and his son, 30-year-old John Siciliani. No shots were fired during the incident, which ended around 5 p.m.

Police say the episode was tied to an alleged assault Wednesday evening. One of the people involved in the incident told news organizations that the men yelled racial epithets and fired a gun. Police issued an arrest warrant for Siciliani for assault with a dangerous weapon.
