WIKIEUP, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say two people have died after their helicopter crashed in western Arizona and burst into flames.

A photo released by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office shows the burned wreckage in a remote desert area.

Sheriff’s officials say the helicopter was bound for California and was reported missing around 12:20 a.m. Friday.

Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies say the aircraft left Prescott and was overdue at its destination of Riverside, California.

Search and rescue personnel located the crashed helicopter near Wikieup.

Mohave County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Trish Carter says two men were found on board but were pronounced dead at the scene.

She says a medical examiner will determine their identities.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified of the crash and will investigate its cause.
