HUDSON, Mass. (AP) - Fire officials say an elderly Hudson woman was found dead in her living room following a fire at her home.

Fire Chief John Blood says firefighters found 76-year-old Carol Gionet around 11 a.m. Thursday at her home. A home health aide had called 911 when she arrived at the home and discovered smoke.

Blood says the house was sealed so tightly that the fire burned itself out from a lack of oxygen. The exterior of the house showed no damage.

Officials believe the fire started in the living room. The Fire Marshal’s Office says there was evidence of smoking materials where the fire started and that Gionet was known to be a smoker.

The office says Gionet’s death is the state’s 31st fire fatality this year.
