WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Cumberland man accused of assaulting three correctional officers on the property of a state prison in Cranston has pleaded not guilty.

WJAR-TV (https://bit.ly/2927fk8 ) reports that Jason Carrion was arraigned Tuesday in Warwick on misdemeanor simple assault charges.

The head of the correctional officers’ union says an officer was attacked by Carrion after approaching him outside the perimeter of the Adult Correctional Institution on June 19. The union president says officers rushed in to help and had to use pepper spray to subdue Carrion.

He’s due back in court on July 12.
