HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey teacher has been indicted on charges she sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.

A grand jury indicted 33-year-old Lauren Mitchell, of Lyndhurst, on Tuesday on charges including endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated criminal sexual contact.

The indictment states Mitchell sexually assaulted the girl from October 2014 to June 2015. The indictment says she also had sexual conversations with the girl and exchange texts and emails with her.

Mitchell was a second-grade teacher at Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School in Jersey City. The girl attended the school but didn’t have Mitchell.

Police arrested Mitchell in June. She was free on $150,000 bail but the indictment says she violated an order not to contact the girl.

Mitchell has maintained her innocence.
