MILWAUKEE (AP) - A woman whose husband was fatally shot near their home on Milwaukee’s north side say they bought a house in a troubled neighborhood because he wanted to inspire change and develop an urban farm.

Thirty-five-year-old Kurt Pierzchalski was fatally shot not far from his garden on Wednesday. Milwaukee police are working to find his killer and a possible motive.

The victim’s wife, Sarah Alvarez, her husband had hoped to lead by example in the neighborhood. The couple has an infant daughter and bought the house in January. Alvarez says Kurt wanted to turn the property into a self-sustaining urban farm.

She tells WISN-TV (https://bit.ly/1UFBUq6 ) strangers would come by the house, stop to have a smoke on the front porch, as they looked for people who used to live there.
