ANALYSIS/OPINION:

It seems that in the year 2016 we have come full circle in our history since 1775. As Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders compete for the Democratic nomination to follow ‘Barack the First’ as U.S. president, Donald Trump pushes hard for the Republican nomination. Aspects of Mr. Trump’s business actions smack of imperial tendencies: Four parts of the Trump empire failed and had to file for bankruptcy on four occasions, and Mr. Trump brags of making money out of them but says nothing about the thousands of employees who lost their jobs and incomes. Then there is the unfolding scandal about Trump University, which is the subject of a class-action lawsuit by students who allege they were each defrauded out of $36,000 for three days of instruction.

Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, illegally exposed hundreds of pieces of classified information to hacking by hostile foreign powers. For his part, Mr. Sanders is an avowed socialist; socialism is incompatible with our republic and free-enterprise economy.

In his famous poem “Invictus,” William Ernest Henley writes “I am the master of my fate: I am the master of my soul.” Can any of us say that? Don’t we want our children and grandchildren to be able to say it? “We the People” shall remain unconquered, but not if we elect Mr. Trump, Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Sanders. An epoch-making election is coming. We must take back our government starting with the presidency. Do not vote for anyone who would steal our liberties or permit our liberties to be stolen from us. Invictus.
