ELOY, Ariz. (AP) - The Latest on a wrong-way accident on eastbound I-10 in southern Arizona(all times local):

8:05 a.m.

Authorities say a wrong-way driver involved in a collision that closed eastbound Interstate 10 in southern Arizona for five hours Thursday morning is hospitalized in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. near Eloy, about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Capt. Damon Cecil says the wrong-way driver’s westbound car collided head-on with an eastbound tractor-trailer rig. The truck’s driver wasn’t injured.

Cecil also says the impairment is suspected as a factor in the collision.

Two eastbound lanes have been reopened.

7:45 a.m.

Authorities are reopening eastbound Interstate 10 in southern Arizona following a Thursday morning closure due to a wrong-way accident near Eloy.

The Department of Transportation says two of three eastbound lanes were reopened a little over three hours after the 4 a.m. accident.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says impairment is suspected in the accident and that there’s at least one serious injury.

The DPS says no additional information is available.

News video showed a car with its front end smashed in as well as a damaged tractor-trailer rig.

6:25 a.m.

The DPS says the Thursday morning collision involved a vehicle traveling westbound in eastbound lanes.

The DPS also says there’s at least one serious injury but that no additional information is immediately available on the accident.

The Department of Transportation says Tucson-bound drivers should expect long delays. Eastbound travelers are being detoured on a frontage road to get around the closure.

Westbound I-10 remains open.

6:20 a.m.
