NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Michael Fitts has been formally installed as president of Tulane University’s 15th president.

At Thursday’s ceremonies on the university’s New Orleans campus, Fitts promised to advance Tulane’s efforts to bridge differences among students of different races and backgrounds.

Fitts actually succeeded the previous president, Scott Cowen, in 2014. University spokesman Keith Brannon told Nola.comThe Times-Picayune (http://bit.ly/1Ua21b9 ) that it took time to schedule an inaugural event featuring delegates from more than 90 universities.

In his time on campus, Fitts has cut staff, formed a commission on “race and Tulane values,” and announced a $1 billion fundraising campaign.
