MILWAUKEE (AP) - Guard Allazia Blockton has been named the Big East Freshman of the Year after leading the Marquette women’s basketball with 18.3 points per game to break the conference scoring record.

Blockton’s 337 points in 18 conference games broke the mark held by Providence’s Kerri Chatten, who had 335 in 1994-95.

The 6-foot Blockton also averaged a team-high 7.8 rebounds, along with 3.3 assists.

Natisha Hiedeman joined Blockton on the league’s all-rookie team. Junior McKayla Yentz was named the league’s most improved player.

At 14-15, the young Golden Eagles already have five wins more than all of last season. They next play on Sunday in the Big East Tournament as the sixth seed against Seton Hall.
