SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A former Syracuse lawyer has been sentenced to weekends behind bars for six months and five years of probation for collecting more than $250,000 in disability payments while continuing his legal work.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Syracuse says the sentence was handed down Thursday against 63-year-old Christopher Chadick, who admitted last year to defrauding Social Security from April 2003 to August 2010.

Chadick admitted that he applied for disability benefits because of Cushing’s disease but didn’t tell Social Security that he was continuing to work as a lawyer while receiving the government beneifts.

Chadick apologized and his attorney says his client was unable to function at his job because of the disease.
