ALMA, Ga. (AP) - Officials say a woods fire has been contained after the flames destroyed about 112 acres of timberland in south Georgia.

WTOC-TV reports (bit.ly/1T9EkhC) firefighters with the Georgia Forestry Commission monitored the blaze throughout the night Thursday in Bacon County, where rainfall in the area helped authorities bring the fire under control.

Forestry officials say no homes were damaged by the fire near Alma, a rural city about 110 miles east of Albany.

The burned timberland covered less than one-fifth of a square mile. Authorities said firefighters were still keeping an eye on the blaze Friday in case windy weather threatens to spread the flames.
