VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) - The Silver State National Peace Officers Museum near Reno is closing.

KOLO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1TZym3J ) that owner Doug Gist says the museum, which opened in 2009, is closing permanently due to low attendance.

Gist says admissions alone are not enough to support any museum and he has been unable to find funding through either federal grants or private sponsorship.

Gist says he opened the museum to provide education about law enforcement profession to the public and to create a place where officers felt the respect they deserve.
