STARKS, Maine (AP) - Fire officials say 16 area departments helped battle a blaze that burned approximately 4 acres of privately owned woods on the Starks side of state Route 43.

The fire was reported near the Industry-Starks town line around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and was contained shortly after noon by firefighters from Franklin and Somerset counties. A pickup truck belonging to the property owner was destroyed in the blaze.

Forest Ranger Mark Rousseau says the risk of fire has been abnormally high this spring due to lack of rain and other environmental factors.

The Forest Service is continuing to investigate the fire’s cause. Rousseau says the landowner had a permitted burn on the property on Sunday, which the Forest Service is looking into.
