HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A Forrest County jury has convicted 30-year-old Jairus Collins for a second time in the December 2011 shooting death of Ebony Jenkins.

Collins was found guilty of Jenkins’ death in 2013, but the decision was overturned on appeal.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/1T9BU4h) the 27-year-old Jenkins, a former Southern Miss basketball player, was found dead in a wooded area. She was shot twice in the back.

Collins stood silently before Circuit Judge Bob Helfrich Wednesday as the judge handed down a life sentence.

Collins is considered a habitual offender, as he has had other felony convictions including a February conviction for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, in which he received life, without the possibility of parole.

The jury deliberated 50 minutes before returning a guilty verdict.
