Police say a 5-year-old North Las Vegas boy who was reported missing overnight with a 22-year-old family acquaintance has been found with the man at a southeast Las Vegas casino.

North Las Vegas police Officer Ann Cavaricci said Thursday that Amari Connor appeared to be unharmed, but was being checked at a hospital after he was located a little before 6:30 p.m. at the Sam’s Town hotel-casino.

He’d been missing for almost 26 hours.

Shaquille Pierce was arrested and is being questioned. Cavaricci says he’s expected to face a felony kidnapping charge.

Police say Pierce and the boy were last seen about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the boy’s family’s home near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue. He was reported missing after Pierce didn’t return him home.

Cavaricci says police, the FBI and Red Rock Search and Rescue received numerous tips while looking for the boy.

She didn’t say what exactly led them to Sam’s Town.

Police sought public help Thursday to locate a 5-year-old boy reported missing overnight since leaving his home in North Las Vegas with a family acquaintance who wore leopard-print leggings and red shoes.

Family members alerted police when 22-year-old Shaquille Pierce didn’t return the boy, Amari Connor, as expected on Wednesday evening, North Las Vegas police Officer Ann Cavaricci said.

The two left the boy’s house near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue on foot about 4:30 p.m., Cavaricci said. It wasn’t clear if Pierce had a vehicle.

An Amber Alert wasn’t issued because authorities didn’t know if a crime had been committed. But Cavaricci said the boy’s family and police were concerned because Pierce isn’t a family member.

Amari was described as 3-foot-4-inches tall and 75 pounds. He was wearing a red polo shirt with a black stripe and white design, khaki shorts, multi-colored sneakers and a red “LA” hat. He had a blue backpack with him.

Pierce was described as being 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds, and photos distributed by police showed him wearing large eyeglasses.

Both Amari and Pierce are African-American.

Cavaricci said Pierce was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the brightly colored leggings and shoes.
