LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock has asked that a future hearing to determine whether to cite the city for contempt of court be cancelled in light of a $10,000 penalty it paid.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1WvI2nJ ) reports that the city paid the penalty Thursday after Circuit Judge Tim Fox ordered the fine two weeks ago. Fox had expressed frustration that only one city attorney was assigned to a case before him, and that the attorney had repeatedly asked for continuances.

Fox ordered Little Rock to pay the $10,000 fine within 10 days. Latonya Austin, the attorney, resigned from city employment after the judge’s order.

City Attorney Tom Carpenter had petitioned Fox to reconsider the penalty, but Fox denied his motions. Carpenter filed a motion to cancel Monday’s hearing after the city paid the fine a week late.
