TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - The Latest on a shooting in Tempe (all times local):

2:05 p.m.

Tempe police say one of three men wounded in an early morning shooting at a residence where homeless people were allowed to camp in the back yard has died.

Police identified the man who died Friday as 34-year-old Gregory Wheeler and say he was one of two men involved in an exchange of gunfire that followed an altercation.

Police Lt. Mike Pooley says the other two wounded men remain in critical condition. Their identities weren’t released.

Pooley says shooting occurred at about 5 a.m. and that officers found two wounded men in the back yard and the third wounded man inside a shed converted into living quarters.

The shooting occurred in the area of Price Road and Apache Boulevard. That’s just west of the Loop 101 freeway.

7:30 a.m.

Tempe police say a shooting that left three men critically wounded involved homeless people allowed to stay in the back yard of a home and occurred after an altercation.

Police Lt. Mike Pooley says the shooting occurred at about 5 a.m. Friday and that officers found two wounded men in the back yard and the third wounded man inside a shed converted into living quarters.

According to Pooley, one of the wounded men told an officer while in am ambulance that the shooting started during an altercation between two of the wounded men.

Police initially said they were looking for a suspect but Pooley says police now think the wounded men account for all those involved in the shooting.

Other people were detained at the scene for questioning, but Pooley says there have been no arrests so far.

The shooting occurred in the area of Price Road and Apache Boulevard. That’s just west of the Loop 101 freeway.

6:40 a.m.

Tempe police are trying to determine the circumstances of a Friday morning shooting that left three people wounded at a home.

Police Lt. Mike Pooley told reporters during a briefing that police are searching for a suspect but that it’s not certain one is at large.

According to Pooley, initial reports indicate the shooting following a confrontation of some type inside a home.

Pooley said previously that multiple homeless people have been allowed to stay on the property.

6:15 a.m.

Tempe police say there’s been a shooting involving at least three victims and that it’s believed a suspect remains at large.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5 a.m. Friday in the area of Price Road and Apache Boulevard. That’s just west of the Loop 101 freeway.

News video shows fire trucks and numerous police officers in the area with several people apparently in custody sitting on a street curb.

The conditions of the victims aren’t known, and no additional information is immediately available.

The Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for additional information.
