LE MARS, Iowa (AP) - Officials in the northwestern Iowa city of Le Mars say they’ll use community betterment funds to build a three-acre dog park in town.

The Le Mars Daily Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1smU7is ) that the $200,000 park will be located at the south end of the pond near the Le Mars Municipal Airport. It will be developed between July and June 2017.

City administrator Scott Langel says the park will be a fenced enclosure that will include benches, tables, grassy areas, a concrete trail, waste receptacles and drinking fountains.

Langel says the city wants to provide a park to “accommodate dogs of all breeds and sizes in a safe, secure and friendly atmosphere.”

Langel says the idea for the dog park came from residents.
