NOVATO, Calif. (AP) - The Latest in an attack near a California high school that killed a student (all times local):

Authorities say they have arrested a second suspect in the killing of a California student near a high school.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect was arrested Thursday at a home about a half-mile from a Novato house where the first suspect was taken into custody.

The names and ages of the suspects weren’t immediately released. Novato is about 20 miles north of San Francisco.

Authorities say three people attacked two Novato High School students Wednesday night along a hiking trail on the edge of a country club community.

One student was shot to death and the other was shot and stabbed. The surviving student is hospitalized.

The victims’ names and ages weren’t released.

Investigators are raiding a second Northern California home as they continue searching for suspects in the fatal shooting of a high school student and the wounding of his classmate.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said officers were raiding a home a half mile from the first Novato house raided Thursday afternoon that resulted in one suspect being detained. Novato is about 20 miles north of San Francisco.

The department didn’t say if anyone was arrested in the second raid, which occurred about 3:30 p.m.

Three people attacked two Novato High School students Wednesday night on a quiet hiking trail on the edge of a country club community.

One student was shot to death and the other was shot and stabbed. The surviving student is hospitalized.

The victims’ names and ages weren’t released.

Authorities say they detained a suspect after raiding a Northern California home near where a high school student was shot dead and a classmate wounded by three attackers.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office didn’t release the name or age of the suspect. Investigators continued to search the home on Thursday afternoon in Novato, a bedroom community about 20 miles north of San Francisco.

The surviving student told investigators he and his classmate were attacked Wednesday evening on a quiet hiking trail on the edge of a Novato country club community.

The students attended Novato High School, which canceled classed Thursday. The surviving student was shot and stabbed and is expected to recover. The other student was fatally shot.

Authorities didn’t release their name or ages.

Northern California authorities say they are raiding a home near where a high school student was shot dead and a classmate wounded by three attackers.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that three law enforcement agencies stormed a home in Novato about 2:10 p.m. Novato is about 20 miles north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. No arrests were immediately announced.

A sheriff’s spokesman says the two Novato High School students were attacked Wednesday night on a quiet hiking trail at the edge of an upscale country club community. No motive has been announced. The school closed for the day Thursday

9:45 a.m.

Authorities say one student is dead and another hospitalized after a shooting and stabbing near a San Francisco Bay Area high school.

Marin County sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman said Thursday that both victims were students at Novato High School in Marin County.

Their names and ages have not been released. Both students were shot and one was stabbed Wednesday evening.

Pittman would not say if arrests had been made in the case. A motive is not known. The school is closed Thursday.

Police say the incident occurred on a hiking trail at the edge of a country club community. Pittman says there is no threat to the community because the attack was an isolated incident involving a small group of people.
