CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - A SWAT team comprised of correctional officers searched for contraband at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after two inmates overdosed this past week.

State Department of Corrections spokesman J.R. Ventura tells The Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/1U9Xz6K ) that the Correctional Emergency Response Team and drug-sniffing canines didn’t find any contraband in their Thursday search of the minimum-security facility.

The first inmate overdosed on May 18, with the second following suit on Wednesday. Ventura says both men were treated with Narcan and were hospitalized. They have since recuperated and are now back in general population.

Ventura says questions regarding the types of drugs used in the overdoses and how they were obtained were part of the investigation.

ACI has extended its methadone program to aid inmates being weaned from their addictions.
