GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Residents at an apartment complex in Gulfport have been evacuated after a fire took place.

Gulfport Fire Battalion Chief Chris Henderson tells WLOX-TV (http://bit.ly/1TZMfKE) that the blaze started around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the South Pointe Apartments.

Officials say arriving firefighters found heaving smoke coming from the kitchen of a second-floor unit of a building.

Anderson says it took firefighters around 10 minutes to put out the blaze.

The Red Cross is assisting residents who weren’t allowed back in their apartments.

Henderson says four units may not be livable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
