LAS VEGAS (AP) - Major construction on Resorts World Las Vegas is expected to begin later this year, with plans for the Chinese-themed resort on the Las Vegas Strip to open in 2019.

The Las Vegas Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1Y9L3rz ) that project officials had initially planned for a 2018 opening of the hotel-casino. But Resorts World General Counsel Gerald Gardner says work on a “complex design” has contributed to the delay.

He told the Nevada Gaming Control Board on Wednesday that full-scale construction at the former site of the Stardust Hotel would begin sometime in the last three months of this year.

Resorts World had its groundbreaking in May 2015. Plans for the site include 3,500 rooms and a 150,000-square-foot casino.

The $4 billion project is being developed by Malaysia-based Genting Group.
