HUNT VALLEY, Md. (AP) - Baltimore County is trying to lure a 400-person PayPal global operations center to the area that was initially planned for North Carolina.

Last week, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz wrote a letter to PayPal President and CEO Dan Schulman encouraging the company to expand its existing Hunt Valley office instead.

PayPal officials recently decided not to open the operations center in North Carolina after Governor Pat McCrory signed a law stripping local jurisdictions’ power to create LGBT non-discrimination policies and requiring residents to use the bathroom of their biological sex.

Kamenetz made no mention of the controversial law in the letter. He pitched the county’s stable tax rate and “high quality of life” for PayPal employees.

PayPal didn’t respond to local media’s requests for comment.
