RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a Reno police officer’s use of a Taser to subdue a suspect who was armed with a hammer during an altercation near downtown.

Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Harmon says two officers responded to reports of an assault and battery in the 200 block of Ryland at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

They found a 58-year-old man who had been severely beaten by two neighbors in a dispute over noise, and located two suspects who resisted arrest.

Harmon says 22-year-old Jacob Finn began to push and kick one officer while 23-year-old Andres Meza moved toward the other officer while refusing commands to drop the hammer.

The officer stuck Meza with a baton and deployed a Taser. Finn was arrested. Meza hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Neither officer was hurt.
