GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to serve 25 years to life in the November 2014 beating death of a 77-year-old shoe repair shop owner inside his upstate New York business.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/1T0fLlP ) Orange County Judge Nicholas De Rosa on Wednesday gave 31-year-old Dennis McBee the maximum sentence allowed.

A jury convicted McBee in March of murder in the death of Josef Kucher.

Prosecutors say McBee waited for Kucher to be alone so he could beat him to death and steal money. Security footage shows McBee entering Kucher’s Port Jervis store and leaving several minutes later.

A customer found Kucher bloodied and dazed. He later died from his injuries.

Defense lawyer Michael Ferraro had asked that McBee receive less than the maximum sentence.

McBee didn’t speak during sentencing.
