BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - The state’s old Port of Port Royal property has been transferred from the South Carolina Ports Authority after five failed attempts in the last decade to sell the property.

The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1UBmsgq ) the 317-acre tract was transferred April 22 to the General Services Division of the Department of Administration.

The agency has a month to hire an appraiser. One month after an appraisal is completed the property will be listed for public auction.

The winning bid must be for at least 80 percent of the property’s appraised value.

The property was once the site of a small port that began operation in 1958 but has been vacant for a decade.
