NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans have hired Ryan Cowden as their director of player personnel.

Cowden spent the last 16 years with Carolina and was the Panthers’ assistant director of college scouting the last two years. He will oversee all areas of the Titans’ pro and college scouting department, including advance scouting, free agency preparation and evaluation of pro players as well as assisting in college scouting and draft preparation.

“When I was first hired by the Patriots, Ryan was promoted by Carolina to handle the Southeast and we cut our teeth together in that region scouting,” Titans general manager Jon Robinson said Thursday in a release announcing the hire. “We were both learning the ropes, going to many of the same places and had a lot of interaction through the years on the road.

“He has a strong eye for talent, he has developed good managerial skills over the years and in the team-building process it will be nice to get his take, as they have put together very good teams there in Carolina over the years.”

The Titans also moved some current personnel to new roles and announced that scouts Marv Sunderland and Mike Yowarsky won’t be returning to the organization. Dale Thompson will now scout the West Coast, Brandon Taylor will handle the Southeast and Wes Slay will scout the Midwest. Dennis Polian will be a pro scout.
