OSAGE, Iowa (AP) - A northern Iowa teen convicted of killing his mother has been sentenced to prison.

A judge on Friday sentenced 17-year-old Noah Crooks to up to 50 years in prison for the March 2012 shooting death of his mother, 37-year-old Gretchen Crooks. He will go to prison once he turns 18 this summer.

The state did not seek a minimum or maximum sentence, so good behavior and credit for time served may affect the length of his sentence.

Prosecutors say Crooks was 13 years old when he repeatedly shot his mother in their Osage home. He was convicted of second-degree murder as a youthful offender in 2013, given a deferred sentence and placed at the Eldora State Training School for Boys.
