NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) - Fire officials say a 30-year-old woman was seriously injured after she drove off the road and crashed into a junkyard in North Smithfield.

The victim, who wasn’t identified, was found unresponsive by rescue crews called to the scene Thursday night at Northeast Auto Recycling on Canal Street.

It took North Smithfield firefighters about five minutes to extricate the woman from her car. She was revived in a rescue truck and was transported to Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket.

Fire officials say the victim’s vehicle went off the road, jumped a fence and rolled several times before landing on its roof among scrap metal and auto parts at the junkyard. A man working near the scene alerted police to the crash.

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.
