SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - The governor of New Mexico has announced the launch of the Twitter handle @NMDWIWatch tell you if drunken driving offenders are let off too easy.

The Twitter handle announcement Wednesday is part of a court monitoring initiative by Gov. Susana Martinez that places residents inside courtrooms across the state.

Officials say the purpose is the shed light how drunken driving cases are being handled.

Martinez has previously said some state judges are routinely lenient in drunken driving cases.

In April, the New Mexico Department of Transportation awarded Mothers Against Drunk Driving a two-year, $800,000 contract to place monitors in courtrooms

Citizens will monitor cases in Bernalillo, Dona Ana, McKinley, Rio Arriba, San Juan, and Santa Fe counties.State officials say the court monitors are tracking 345 pending cases.
