ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina Democrats are returning to the mountains for their annual fall gathering that activists hope will build enthusiasm for party candidates in the final weeks before Election Day.

The state Democratic Party scheduled its Western Gala for Saturday at an Asheville hotel.

More than 350 people are expected at the Gala dinner. Featured speakers include gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Roy Cooper as well as Bellamy Young, an Asheville native who plays the first lady in the television show “Scandal.”

Young has campaigned in the state recently as a surrogate for Hillary Clinton.

Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor Linda Coleman is scheduled as the keynote speaker for the Democratic women’s breakfast Saturday morning.
