TROY, Ala. (AP) - Troy Police have identified the Troy University student who was killed early Friday.

Authorities say 20-year-old Michael Kennedy was found just before 3:30 a.m. in the front yard of a home. He’d been shot multiple times in the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

WSFA-TV (http://bit.ly/2dTuUbM ) reports the home’s resident answered a knock on his door to find two people outside, one armed with a long gun. Details on the second person have not been released.

Police Chief Randall Barr says the resident fired multiple rounds from a handgun toward the armed subject, striking him in the chest. The armed subject was identified as Kennedy.

It wasn’t clear why Kennedy would have gone to the residence.

The university says Kennedy was a sophomore business major from Niceville, Florida.
