ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - The West Feliciana School Board will add 16 minutes to the school day during the 2016-17 school year to make up for the four instructional days lost to floods in August.

The Advocate (http://bit.ly/2eabOyp ) reports that the minutes will be added after Oct. 21 and will affect the end time of the school day.

West Feliciana School Board secretary Helen Davis says adding the minutes will cost the district $167,000.

The original plan to make up for the time lost was to eliminate a Jan. 4 staff development day and shorten the Easter holiday. Instead, the board voted 3-2 to add the minutes. As a result, the district will have one remaining contingency day.
