HOUSTON (AP) - A 14-year-old student has been charged with making a terroristic threat against a Houston Independent School District school on social media using the image of a clown.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office said Monday the charge is based on evidence from school district police who have been investigating multiple threats against schools.

School district officials say they’re withholding the name of the student charged because he’s a juvenile.

The district, the largest in Texas, says police are continuing to investigate other threats made against its campuses. It describes the threats as believed to be part of a national hoax.

A series of suspicious or scary incidents have been reported nationwide involving clowns or threats about clowns on social media.
