SPRINGPORT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 53-year-old southern Michigan man will stand trial in the fatal shootings of two 18-year-old men near his Springport Township home.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (http://bit.ly/2dCDzMz ) that a district judge on Monday ruled that testimony showed a reasonable belief that Matthew Lyle McMillen and Hunter Scott Lentz were fleeing when they were shot in June.

Tracy Lawrence is charged with second-degree murder and gun charges. Police say Lawrence told investigators he believed he was in danger and that McMillen and Lentz were running toward him when he shot them in the backyard.

Defense attorney Jared Hopkins has said the shooting was a case of self-defense.

No trial date has been set yet.
