TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Three people have been wounded, one critically, when gunfire erupted outside a Tuscaloosa restaurant and nearby convenience store.

Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Capt. Gary Hood tells local media that officers responded at about 1 a.m. Sunday to a disturbance outside the Cypress Inn Restaurant. Officers arrived to find several vehicles in the parking lot and a large crowd of people.

Officers blocked the road and tried to clear the parking lot before shots rang out.

More officers arrived, and police heard 35 to 50 shots from the area of a nearby convenience store.

Hood says a 22-year-old man was shot outside the Cypress Inn and sustained life-threatening injuries. Two more men, ages 20 and 21, were shot near the convenience store.

Police recovered more than 50 shell casings from outside the convenience store.

The investigation is ongoing.
