ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Republican Minnesota House candidate has been charged with domestic assault after allegedly throwing his wife to the floor and choking her son.

The Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/2dr7rOf) reports Bradly Gerten faces a felony and misdemeanor charge for the weekend incident. Gerten allegedly grabbed his wife’s son after he asked whether there was any pizza left and being told to look for himself. Gerten allegedly threw his wife when she tried to intervene then choked the son.

Gerten was running for a suburban House seat currently held by Democratic Rep. Sandra Masin.

Both the GOP House Speaker and the Republican Party of Minnesota have disavowed Gerten and vowed they won’t support his candidacy. Just a month out before Election Day, it’s unlikely they can field a different candidate.
