LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A Las Cruces woman has been arrested for allegedly leaving her 3-month-old child alone in a vehicle for up to 45 minutes.

Police say 39-year-old Jenny Merta is being held without bond in the Dona Ana County Detention Center on suspicion of one count each of child abandonment and battery on a peace officer.

They say Merta left her residence Sunday afternoon with her two young children in a vehicle that didn’t have any child safety seats.

After she allegedly left the infant in the vehicle with two windows down, police say Merta went inside the Sonoma Ranch Golf Club clubhouse and acted disorderly and disruptive around staff.

Police say Merta allowed her 3-year-old child to run around the clubhouse unsupervised.

It was unclear Tuesday if Merta has a lawyer.
