ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York parks officials have begun installing newly designed docks to make it easier for people with disabilities to launch kayaks and canoes.

They say one launch was recently installed at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville (FAY’uht-vil) and others will follow at Buffalo Harbor State Park this fall and at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva and Wellesley Island State Park near Alexandria Bay next year.

The new dock has two slips with an overhead grab bar to help with stability as people get in and out of boats.

One slip also has a hinged ramp in the water to hold a canoe and kayak in place before launching and a low-scale stair to let wheelchair users lower themselves into the boat.
