LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles police have arrested five people they believe sold spice on Skid Row, where the synthetic drug is blamed for sickening dozens of users.

Police say gang and narcotics investigators made the arrests Wednesday and investigators later found chemicals used to make the drug at a home in South Los Angeles.

Spice is the collective name for various synthetic marijuana concoctions that are sold cheaply in smokable form, making it attractive to the poor and homeless.

Spice overdoses are believed to have sickened some 70 people on Skid Row in recent weeks and Los Angeles is considering banning the drug.
