AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) - There’s a new pedestrian walkway and scenic overlook over the Mohawk River.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration announced Wednesday that work is completed on the $17.5 million Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook in Amsterdam, 30 miles west of Albany. The landscaped pedestrian bridge connects the city’s south side with its downtown.

The 511-foot span is intended to provide residents and visitors alike with a new way to see the Mohawk Valley and Erie Canal.

Cuomo, a Democrat, says the “majestic” overlook is both a way to reach a destination and a “destination in itself.”

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul attended a ribbon cutting for the walkway on Wednesday.
